UNIVERSITY OF THESSALY CONFERENCE & CULTURAL CENTER (OLD PAOU MONASTERY IN ARGALASTI, PELION, MAGNESIA, GREECE)
The old monastery of St. Nicholas which was restorated and reconstructed by the University of Thessaly after its concession provided by the community of Argalasti operates as Conference and Cultural Center. The Monastery complex, which consists of a courtyard, 8 double bedrooms and 1 quadruple room (+ dining room and waiting room area), a meeting room with capacity of 20 people, a lecture hall with capacity of 25 people and a small exhibition center, is surrounded by an area of 600 hectares while in the interior there is a church of the 17th century decorated with exquisite frescoes.
The complex which is open to visitors (see “How to visit”), it is fully equipped and operates all year round. It can host summer schools and small working groups, as well as cultural events (concerts, exhibitions …). It is available for both members of the University of Thessaly faculty members and institutions /groups apart from the University of Thessaly in Greece or abroad for meetings, seminars, workshops and other related scientific, educational and cultural activities. The natural beauty, the available infrastructure and its location make the complex a welcoming and convenient venue to conduct such activities.
Furthermore, the complex serves as a venue of hosting faculty members, researchers, people of letters and arts who wish to stay for a short time, as the building and the surrounding area offers ideal working conditions.
